This article sets out an overview of the unsolicited proposal process for submission of new project ideas to government. It focuses on the regulatory framework in Australia and recent experiences. In particular, it discusses the assessment criteria, the submission and evaluation process, how IP rights will be protected and the process after the initial submission.
